Learning and teaching Spanish always challenges me and puts me way out of my comfort zone. Just last week I learned that the singular form of talmale in Spanish is "tamal". I recently learned this while speaking with a native speaker. It made me uncomfortable to make that mistake because I'm a Spanish teacher! I should know these things. It almost makes me want to avoid speaking Spanish. It's not fun making mistakes! As embarrassing as it is, I am going to continue to speak Spanish as much as possible because it always makes me a better Spanish speaker. I will never forget that it is "el tamal" in the singular and "los tamales" in the plural. The lessons that I have really learned, the ones that have stuck with me are the ones that I've made through trial and error. If I want to be a better Spanish speaker I am going to have to be willing to take risks and to make mistakes.
Our Kindergarteners, First and Second graders are up to the challenge of learning Spanish. They are willing to take risks and to make mistakes. They don't worry about getting it right or being perfect. They are learning Spanish simply for the joy of learning something new and different. I LOVE that about them! They inspire me everyday! Thank you for your beautiful children!
